Earlier this week, General Motors told investors in a closed meeting that a pure-electric Chevrolet with a projected 200-mile range is in the pipeline.

GM’s global product chief Mark Russ confirmed the new electric vehicle was the much talked about “Chevy Sonic Z” version rather than the Chevy Spark, but additional details are scant.

Nonetheless, GM plans to deliver its 200-mile EV at a price of approximately $30,000 in 2016 or 2017.

GM is only the latest auto-manufacturer to promise a 200-mile EV. Both Nissan and BMW have promised 300-kilometer (200-mile) EV’s in 2017.
